Figure 2: The Catalog Window</p>
<p align="LEFT"><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2" color="#FFFFFF"><b><font color="#66CCCC">Before
You </font></b> catalog a disk, be sure to create a database to
put it in. This generally occurs when you start using Zipcat Pro
for the first time. Roll your mouse slowly over the buttons in
the toolbar at the top of the main window (see the Introduction
for a picture of the main window) and stop briefly on each one.
A tooltip will pop up and tell you what the button is. Click the
<b>New Database</b> button and give it a name.</font></p>
<p align="LEFT"><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2" color="#FFFFFF">You
can then click the <b>Catalog Disk</b> button. The dialog in figure
2 will appear. The process to catalog a disk is a simple 3 step
process:</font></p>
<ul>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Select
a drive in the left window to catalog</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Select
the destination database for your volume</font></li>
<li><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Click
the <b>Catalog</b> button</font></li>
</ul>
<p><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">After
you click the catalog button for a disk that hasn't been previously
cataloged, you wil be asked to name it. ZCP3 will automatically
fill in the volume label as the name of the volume, but you can
type over it with whatever you like. You'll find that naming disks
with good, descriptive volume labels, as well as using "descript.ion"
files (explained in detail below) will save you time when recataloging
later. </font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">The
arrow button on the lower right reveals catalog options that are
explained in detail in the <b>Options</b> section. They are generally
set there, globally, but can be overided here if necessary. The
options include turning on/off ZIP file extraction, auto-descriptions,
and more. You generally won't use them here after setting them
in the Options window.</font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">If
you have several disks to catalog, ZCP3 is able to eject each
disk after cataloging (Options.) But you may also select a drive
in the left pane and click the <b>Eject Disk</b> button.</font></p>
<p><font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif"><b><font color="#66CCCC">DESCRIPTION
FILES </font></b><font color="#FFFFFF">are real timesavers! This
is how they work: You create a file with the name <b>descript.ion</b>
and place it in a folder on your disk. That file will contain
the descriptions of files and folders that reside in the same
folder as itself. So, you may have many of these files, each in
a different folder on your disk to describe the contents of their
respective parent folders.</font></font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2" color="#FFFFFF">It's
really just a text file, which you can edit with notepad, etc.
to add the descriptions. These descriptions support files and
folders, and long filenames. The format of the file contents follows:</font></p>
<p><font face="Courier New, Courier, mono" size="2">"My Documents"
Word processing documents, etc.<br>
Games Video Games and Entertainment files<br>
"software demo.exe" Demo for software at work<br>
zipcat.cat ZCP3 Catalog marker file</font></p>
<p><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2">Above
are 4 lines of text, each ending with CR+LF (pressing ENTER in
notepad, or whatever text editor you're using.) Files or folders
with long filenames are surrounded with quotes, while short filenames
don't have to be. The filename and description are separated with
a space. The description does not need to be asurrounded with
quotes.</font></p>
